  • MCAS

Families should have all received letters regarding getting started on MCAS

The letter also includes a few key dates as we move away from our existing systems such as ParentPay and the communication aspect of Seesaw.

Planning is underway for next year and we will be able to include breakfast club, afterschool clubs and class trips on MCAS as we move through the summer, so please sign up to be able to access these features.

With only a week to go before we finish for summer it would be really useful for you to try and get this set up before then whilst staff are around to support.

If you have any questions then please do contact the office.

  • Young Voices

As we start to look ahead to the next academic year, we are pleased to confirm we are taking part in Young Voices 2027.

This is a fantastic opportunity for children to take part in a choir and perform alongside other schools at the Utilita Arena Sheffield on 23rd February 2027.

You can sign your child up using the QR Code in the attached letter, you also need to sign them up on ParentPay so we know numbers in school. First Rehearsal is taking place  Friday 10.7.2026 during lunchtime. Second rehearsal and following rehearsals will be on a Wednesday lunchtime, children will receive songs to practice through the summer on 15.7.2026.

By signing your child up you are agreeing to them taking part in the performance at Utilita Arena and committing them to attending all rehearsals up to the performance date of 23.2.2027. From September there will be a small charge per month of £3 on ParentPay to contribute towards the cost of the coach.

Once parents have signed up you can also order concert tickets and t-shirts on the young voices music room portal.

Deadline for signing up is 17.7.2026 and we have a maximum of 30 for the choir.

If you have any queries please call the school office on 01709 542678

  • KEY REMINDERS

    Medical

We have noticed that some children have been bringing hayfever wipes into school. These should not be brought in unless a medical form has been completed in advance. If your child requires these, please contact the school office so we can arrange the appropriate paperwork.

The same applies to sunscreen. Due to allergy risks, sunscreen should not be sent into school unless agreed through a medical form.

    Phone use

I would also like to remind parents that mobile phones must not be used during any parent events in school. This is to ensure the safeguarding and privacy of all children. Staff will challenge phone use if they see it during sessions. If you need to take a call or use your phone for any reason, please step away from the classroom or children. If you speak to a member of staff, they will be happy to direct you to an appropriate space.

Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our children safe.

  • Football Before School

We have noticed that some children are arriving on site very early to play football.

Unfortunately, staff are unable to supervise this, and we have recently had several incidents where children have been injured before the start of the day. To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that children refrain from playing football before school.

  • Breakfast Club

Places for Breakfast Club can now be booked on ParentPay and must be booked in advance.

As we prepare for the new academic year, we want to let you know about a small change to our Breakfast Club provision. Due to rising food and staffing costs, there will be a slight increase in the daily price from September. We have kept this as minimal as possible while ensuring we can continue to offer a safe, high‑quality service for all children. Please see the poster attached for further information.

We are also pleased to share that Breakfast Club will be opening to Nursery‑aged children from next year. We know this will be a welcome support for many families, and we are delighted to extend this provision. Booking wil be available on MCAS.

  • Wraparound Care

  • Reminder: We Are a Nut‑Free School

To help keep all children and staff safe, please remember that our school is strictly nut‑free. Any food items found in lunchboxes that contain nuts will need to be removed.

We also ask parents to be mindful of other items placed in lunchboxes. Please ensure that anything with sharp or potentially unsafe components—such as skewers, cocktail sticks, or similar items—is removed before sending lunches into school.

Thank you very much for your continued support and cooperation.

  • Try Before You Buy

Children can ask to try something from the menu without ordering.

  • September Nursery Places Available

We have tour dates available as well as stay and play sessions for children.

We can offer our families a relaxed classroom based learning environment, with teacher led activities and enrichment such as baking, a dedicated outdoor play area, in-school workshops and school trips.

  • Sickness & Diarrhoea

We continue to have students ill with the sickness bug. We follow HSC Public Health Agency guidance which states children should be kept off school for 48 hours from the last episode of either. If your child does have any sickness & diarrhoea, then we ask you to follow these guidelines and contact school as normal to report their absence. If your child is sent home from school, then this guidance will also apply.

General news

  • Best Start in Life: Screen Time

"Digital screens are now a normal part of family life. The early years are, however, critical for development – 90% of a child’s brain development occurs by age 5, making it a critical period for the development of social, emotional and cognitive skills."

  • What is Omoggle?

Omoggle is a new anonymous video chat site where users are paired with strangers and rated on their appearance by an AI algorithm. It's become a popular platform within the "mogging" trend where people are compared and ranked based on their looks and has been gaining significant traction across platforms such as Twitch and TikTok, particularly among younger audiences.

    Why is it a concern?

The site's anonymous nature means young people can end up in an unmoderated space being judged on how they look, with no oversight. This kind of content is linked to body image issues, low self-esteem, and bullying, and it's particularly concerning for younger users. Beyond this, ‘mogging’ culture has strong links to incel-adjacent communities and Nihilistic Violent Extremism (NVE) - an area we've been closely monitoring and have made significant adjustments to our ruleset for. This makes Omoggle particularly concerning from a safeguarding perspective.

  • South Yorkshire Fire

I am writing to you from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

We have a created a game designed to get families thinking about how they would escape should the worst happen and they experience a house fire. On completion of the game, there is the chance to download a template so that families can make their own escape plan.

The game is inspired by classic arcade video games and there are exciting prizes up for grabs for those taking part - including a grand prize of a Nintendo Switch 2!

I would really appreciate if you could include a mention of this in your school bulletins/parent mail and any staff communications too.

You can find out more about the game here

And here's a link to play it

Thanks in advance for your support.

  • What I wish my parents or carers knew…': a guide for parents and carers on children's digital lives (Children's Commissioner)

The Children's Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza, has published a guide to help parents and carers navigate the challenge of managing children's everyday online habits. Written with direct input from children and young people, including teenagers consulted in schools and the Commissioner's Youth Ambassadors. The guide is designed to make difficult conversations easier and more regular.

The guide covers setting boundaries around phone use, talking about harmful content, and building ongoing communication that goes beyond a one-off conversation. The voice of young people runs through it, including this from one teenager: "Don't be afraid to be firm… If you are worried your child is seeing harmful content and you don't know what they're watching and it's affecting their behaviour, just take it that you know best, they don't."

  • Become A Young Content Creator

We would love to invite your students to take part in “My Journey to School”, part of the Voices in Motion programme – a youth‑led project exploring how young people experience their everyday journeys.

Through this opportunity, students will become content creators, producing short films and reflections that capture how their journeys feel day to day – including where they feel safe or unsafe, confident or anxious. Their insights will directly inform improvements to transport planning, road safety and active travel across South Yorkshire.

All delivery is fully managed by Participation People, including safeguarding, training, equipment and ongoing support. Students will receive:

  • AQA‑accredited training
  • Support throughout the project
