Attendance Matters

At our Academy and under the guidance of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, we emphasise the importance of regular school attendance to support your child's educational progress and future prospects. We urge all parents/carers to work collaboratively with the Academy and the Local Authority to ensure the best possible outcomes for their children's education.

- National Book Token Competition

Please vote for Ravenfield Primary Academy to give us a chance of winning new books for our school as well as the chance of winning £100 vouchers for yourself.

- Junior Parkrun
Just following up with an update on some of our newest junior parkrun recruits from Ravenfield Primary Academy.
Since the assembly, we've been joined by a few of the pupils for their first time at junior parkrun: those I know of include: S L - Y1
TH - Y2
RL - Y6
But our most committed of all, deserving of a special mention, is ES - Y1. ES has now completed 7 runs at junior parkrun since attending the first Sunday after the school assembly and I know she's aiming to achieve her half-marathon band soon (for 11 runs).

- DJ & Electronic Lessons
They are now being offered by Rotherham Music. Please see the information below.
- Football Before School
We have noticed that some children are arriving on site very early to play football.
Unfortunately, staff are unable to supervise this, and we have recently had several incidents where children have been injured before the start of the day. To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that children refrain from playing football before school.
- Breakfast Club
Places for Breakfast Club can now be booked on ParentPay and must be booked in advance.
- Wraparound Care

- Reminder: We Are a Nut‑Free School
To help keep all children and staff safe, please remember that our school is strictly nut‑free. Any food items found in lunchboxes that contain nuts will need to be removed.
We also ask parents to be mindful of other items placed in lunchboxes. Please ensure that anything with sharp or potentially unsafe components—such as skewers, cocktail sticks, or similar items—is removed before sending lunches into school.
Thank you very much for your continued support and cooperation.
- Try Before You Buy
Children can ask to try something from the menu without ordering.

- September Nursery Places Available
If your child turns 3 years old prior to September and you are looking for a nursery place, get in touch with us now to be added to our waiting list.
We have tour dates available as well as stay and play sessions for children.
We can offer our families a relaxed classroom based learning environment, with teacher led activities and enrichment such as baking, a dedicated outdoor play area, in-school workshops and school trips.
We currently have 15 and 30 hour places available, Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:15pm term time.
If you’d like more information or would like to book onto a tour, please contact us using the form below.
We’d love to welcome you and your child into our setting!

- Sickness & Diarrhoea
We continue to have students ill with the sickness bug. We follow HSC Public Health Agency guidance which states children should be kept off school for 48 hours from the last episode of either. If your child does have any sickness & diarrhoea, then we ask you to follow these guidelines and contact school as normal to report their absence. If your child is sent home from school, then this guidance will also apply.

What is Omoggle?
Omoggle is a new anonymous video chat site where users are paired with strangers and rated on their appearance by an AI algorithm. It's become a popular platform within the "mogging" trend where people are compared and ranked based on their looks and has been gaining significant traction across platforms such as Twitch and TikTok, particularly among younger audiences.
Why is it a concern?
The site's anonymous nature means young people can end up in an unmoderated space being judged on how they look, with no oversight. This kind of content is linked to body image issues, low self-esteem, and bullying, and it's particularly concerning for younger users. Beyond this, ‘mogging’ culture has strong links to incel-adjacent communities and Nihilistic Violent Extremism (NVE) - an area we've been closely monitoring and have made significant adjustments to our ruleset for. This makes Omoggle particularly concerning from a safeguarding perspective.

South Yorkshire Fire
I am writing to you from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.
We have a created a game designed to get families thinking about how they would escape should the worst happen and they experience a house fire. On completion of the game, there is the chance to download a template so that families can make their own escape plan.
The game is inspired by classic arcade video games and there are exciting prizes up for grabs for those taking part - including a grand prize of a Nintendo Switch 2!
I would really appreciate if you could include a mention of this in your school bulletins/parent mail and any staff communications too.
You can find out more about the game here
Thanks in advance for your support.

Minecraft
."Minecraft remains hugely popular with young players, offering creative freedom and social interaction. This guide explores how features like public servers, in-game chat and multiplayer modes can introduce risks, including contact with strangers, exposure to inappropriate behaviour and privacy concerns linked to independent server hosting. It also highlights issues such as griefing, in-game spending and potentially addictive gameplay loops. With clear, actionable advice, the guide helps parents and educators set boundaries, choose safer settings and support children in enjoying Minecraft responsibly while staying protected online."

Animating Minds Research - 3-6 year olds
In brief, the study involves short daily activities over 18 days (a game, a cartoon, and the game again), and families who complete the study receive a certificate and a £50 e-gift voucher. One child per family can sign up to take part, and all children will need access to a tablet or touchscreen device.
You can view our project website here - https://www.arts.ac.uk/creative-computing-institute/research/projects/animating-minds

You Tube
"YouTube continues to be a go-to platform for entertainment, learning and creativity, but its vast and largely unregulated content library presents ongoing challenges. This guide outlines how features like recommendations, Shorts and social interaction can shape young people’s viewing habits, sometimes exposing them to inappropriate or extreme material.
It also explores key safeguarding concerns, including stranger interaction, risky trends and the limits of automated moderation. With practical advice on tools such as YouTube Kids, supervised accounts and parental controls, the guide supports parents and educators in encouraging safer, more balanced and informed use of the platform."

What I wish my parents or carers knew…': a guide for parents and carers on children's digital lives (Children's Commissioner)
The Children's Commissioner, Dame Rachel de Souza, has published a guide to help parents and carers navigate the challenge of managing children's everyday online habits. Written with direct input from children and young people, including teenagers consulted in schools and the Commissioner's Youth Ambassadors. The guide is designed to make difficult conversations easier and more regular.
The guide covers setting boundaries around phone use, talking about harmful content, and building ongoing communication that goes beyond a one-off conversation. The voice of young people runs through it, including this from one teenager: "Don't be afraid to be firm… If you are worried your child is seeing harmful content and you don't know what they're watching and it's affecting their behaviour, just take it that you know best, they don't."

- Become A Young Content Creator

We would love to invite your students to take part in “My Journey to School”, part of the Voices in Motion programme – a youth‑led project exploring how young people experience their everyday journeys.
Through this opportunity, students will become content creators, producing short films and reflections that capture how their journeys feel day to day – including where they feel safe or unsafe, confident or anxious. Their insights will directly inform improvements to transport planning, road safety and active travel across South Yorkshire.
All delivery is fully managed by Participation People, including safeguarding, training, equipment and ongoing support. Students will receive:
- AQA‑accredited training
- Support throughout the project
- A £40 voucher in recognition of their time
This project offers young people a safe, structured way to share their lived experiences and influence real decisions that affect their daily lives.
