PUPIL PREMIUM
Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides schools with additional funding (about £l,385 per year for six years) for every child who has been able to prove they qualify for it.
The funding is targeted at students who are from households where families are claiming or could claim Free School Meals, families who have a parent/carer in the armed forces or children who have been adopted or are in care.
The Academy is responsible for making sure that the money for that child is being spent to improve their education. Our Academies have used this in many different ways in the past couple of years to help the learning of all the children who receive this funding.
Could Your Child be Missing out on £1,385 or £2,410 per year in Pupil Premium Funding?
The Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides us as an academy with additional funding to support children. The funding is targeted at pupils who are from households where families are claiming or could claim free school meals, families who have a parent in the armed forces or those who are in care or were adopted from care.
How much does the academy receive ?
- £1,385 for any child who has ever been in receipt of free school meals in the last 6 years (Ever6)
- £2.410 for any child who is looked after
- £2,410 for any child who is post looked after e.g. adopted
The academy uses this funding to narrow the gap between pupil premium and other pupils to ensure they make good progress whilst in our care.Please read the impact statement to see how the funds have been used last year and plans for the coming year.
Your child and the Academy will benefit from this money for 6 years, however in order to claim this additional support the academy needs to be aware of your particular circumstances. Since September 2015 children in key stage 1 have all had a free school meal provided. This has meant that the number of families claiming free school meals has reduced dramatically . Please check out the website www.myfreeschoolmeals.com for more information regarding eligibility and making an online application, or alternatively speak to the academy office for further details. We are more than happy to help you with the application as we benefit greatly from the additional funding which can be claimed by any child within our Reception class onwards. There is also early years funding which parents of children attending pre-school can access in the same manner.
To show your child is able to get Free School Meals funding you need to be in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
Each year we review the needs of our pupil premium children and develop bespoke packages of support which may include:
- Employing additional teaching assistant support in classes
- Training the pastoral team to support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
- Developing and resourcing an engaging new curriculum to raise pupil attainment
