We urge all parents/carers to work collaboratively with the Academy and the Local Authority to ensure the best possible outcomes for their children's education.

  • Football Before School

We have noticed that some children are arriving on site very early to play football.

Unfortunately, staff are unable to supervise this, and we have recently had several incidents where children have been injured before the start of the day. To keep everyone safe, we kindly ask that children refrain from playing football before school.

Thank you,

Miss Jepson

Junior Parkrun

We were visited in an assembly this week by one of the Run Directors at Rosehill Victoria junior parkrun.

Children were given an introduction to junior parkrun and encouraged to take part. Rosehill Victoria Park in Rawmarsh is the closest location for junior parkrun to Ravenfield. It is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 2k event for juniors (4 to 14 year olds). All that is required in advance is for children to be registered with parkrun here: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ and to come along with their barcode. We hope some of our children will join in this week or on any coming Sunday.

General news

  • WhatsApp

WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging platform on the planet, with over two billion users (forecast to become three billion by 2025), across more than 180 countries. The majority of those people (70%) open the app at least once a day – but what exactly are they seeing? Contact from strangers, fake news and convincing scams are all among the service’s well-documented hazards. According to Ofcom, WhatsApp is used by more than half of 3- to 17-year-olds in the UK (including one in three from the 8–11 bracket), despite its 13+ age restriction. If your child hops onto WhatsApp to stay in touch with friends or family, our updated #WakeUpWednesday guide to the service contains the key details you’ll need to support them in doing it safely.

  • Kids Online Safety Campaign

"kids online safety" resource which was recently announced by the DfE. Children’s lives are shaped by the experiences they have, including from the online world. This can be through learning, gaming, socialising or exploring.

Having access to the internet brings many benefits to children, but it can also create risks that families may not know how to manage.

With so much information available, it’s easy to understand why parents and carers can feel overwhelmed and unable to find the right support or advice about how to help keep their children safe online.

We’re launching ‘Kids online safety’, a new website created in conjunction with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and their media literacy campaign.

The campaign aims to support families and encourage regular conversations about what they’re seeing online, asking simple questions, like “who shared this” and “why?”.

The site has been designed to meet the needs of parents and carers by providing a trusted place for content that gives:

  • conversation tips to have with children about online safety
  • actions to help you support each stage of a child’s life online
  • parental controls information
  • support and reporting information for various risks, harms and issues

It provides clear information which recognises the challenges and fast changing nature of the online digital world.

In addition, it will also sign post to trusted resources from charities and 3rd parties, where parents and carers can get other forms of support (like speaking to an expert).

Community news

  • Trans Pennine Trail

We’re delighted to share our brand‑new Kids’ Easter Activity Pack, filled with fun nature‑themed activities, crafts, recipes and puzzles for families to enjoy during the holiday. It’s a great way to inspire children to get creative, explore the outdoors, and learn more about the outdoors and the Trans Pennine Trail.

With colourful characters leading the way, this activity pack inspires kids to discover spring wildlife, get creative, and enjoy the magic of the outdoors as it wakens up after its winter slumbers. There are opportunities to share their adventures and to earn a digital certificate.

The packs are ideal for Key Stage 1 and 2, but there’s something for everyone – whether you’re a teacher, parent, or young explorer. They’re perfect for use on the Trail, in your local park, or even indoors on a rainy day. Every pack is designed to help everyone learn, play, and make memories while exploring the outdoors.

The activity pack can be used ‘on the go’ by downloading it to a mobile or can be printed at home. We’d obviously prefer parents to download the pack themselves so if you could share the link with them, it would be appreciated.  But we can send out printed copies to people who don’t have a printer or are unable to access the website if they get in touch with us.

Download it from our Children’s page at: Welcome to our Children’s Page | Trans Pennine Trail
